Thailand - the lost paradise

Publié le par Francis NYOCK & Alice TUMLER

Let me tell you, why this year, we've posted hardly any articles... we've been wondering as well. Last year, we had incredible stories every single day and even more amazing pictures!! The reason is that, first of all, we've spent quite a lot of time on our courses, meaning that at least 7 hours a day were spent on massage techniques, leaving only little time to tourism. Then, these courses were held in major cities, and as a matter of fact, cities around the world are quite similar, especially in Thailand, were you feel like being in Europe, only that it it's cheaper and there are more lady boys....

When we met Tanya in Varkala  ( the Irish girl we knew from Brazil), she told us that Thailand is beautiful, but as we had quite an experience last year, it might be a bit too "easy" for us... How can a country be too easy??? Now we know!

We've spent the last 3 days around Krabi and on the islands Ko Lanta and Ko Phi Phi: here's the story.

We arrived in Krabi on Sunday and headed straight to the first beach. It was great to feel the sun after some time spent up North, but jelly fish kept us from swimming a lot. We didn't care as Krabi was only a stop over before taking a boat to Ko Lanta the next morning. Everybody told us to go to Lanta as Phi Phi is full of tourists and totally overprized... Lanta?? We expected heaven on earth!

So, this is how we got to Ko  Lanta on Monday. Smart as we are, we decided to look for a guest house, as EVERYBODY wants a bungalo on the beach. We found a place to stay very very quickly. A hotel called "The Beach", where all the employees were weed-smoking, BobMarley listening Thai rastas. We found a great beach and were amazed by the fact, that we had the entire strip practically for ourselves!!! Apart from the jelly fish of course, that again were reminding us of their presence. The joys of solitude turned into a nightmare at night, when we figured out that we were literally alone on the island. That would be a great experience if it was some Robinson Crusoe island, where no one had ever been before. But Lanta has all the tourism infrastructure, thus being there by yourself ( and with a couple of prostitues) feels more like being in a ghost town. (Valerie, here I have to admit, that the area around the Sanctuary was cool :-)

So we left for Phi Phi yesterday! I have to admit that the island is absolutely gorgeous when you arrive there by boat. Strips of white sand, full green tropcal woods... and we were rather happy to say many many, many many people right at the peer.
Then, of course, every little room costs twice as much as in Lanta.... and you don't get to see any Thai people ( there might be a few working in restaurants and some more who try to sell you drugs or sex). The average inhabitant of Phi Phi is about 20 years old and Scandinavian, whose only objective in life is to get absolutely wasted and laid!! Most of the girls were even very happy to show us their underwear. Francis had another ground braking experience. A "female" dancer tried to hook up with him on the dance floor by directly grabbing his balls... Nice!
